Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday suggested that Thursday evening’s violent clashes at Shantirbazar in Dhalai district were part of a larger conspiracy — one that may involve not only external instigators but also internal political tensions within the ruling alliance.
After visiting the injured government officials and a trader undergoing treatment at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, Dr. Saha strongly condemned the violence that erupted during the 24-hour statewide bandh called by the Tiprasa Civil Society, an organisation affiliated with the Tipra Motha party — a key ally of the BJP in the state government.
“This is clearly part of a conspiracy. I have already explained everything in my social media post. The government will not tolerate such acts, and police have been instructed to act firmly against the culprits,” Saha said, adding that anyone attempting to destabilise the state or create pressure on the government through violence would face strict action.
The chief minister’s comments come amid growing tension between the BJP and its alliance partner Tipra Motha. In his earlier social media post, Saha had condemned the “violent attack by Tipra Motha supporters” on Block Development Officer Abhijit Majumder, engineer Animesh Saha, and several residents of Shantirbazar, terming the incident “unacceptable” and directing the administration to take “swift and strict action” against those responsible.
When asked whether the bandh-related violence was a pressure tactic by the alliance partner, the chief minister responded, “That pressure will be diminished in due course of time.”
Pressed further on whether internal factionalism within the BJP contributed to the unrest, Saha stopped short of denying it, remarking only that “conspiracy covers everything” — a statement widely interpreted as an indirect acknowledgment of brewing power struggles within the party’s ranks.
