Tripura CM Holds Meeting With BSF . Expressed Concern Over Increase Of Infiltration

There has been a rapid increase in the number of Bangladeshi intruders on the border in Tripura recently. After this the government has come into action.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a meeting with top officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday. He has asked the BSF to keep a strict vigilance across the border and take strict action against those involved in it.

A statement issued by the BSF headquarters located in Salbagan, Agartala said that the CM has expressed concern over the recent increase in infiltration of Bangladeshi citizens into India and directed the officials to take appropriate action against those involved in supporting the intruders and illegal border trading.

BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) S K Sinha apprised Manik Saha of issues related to shortage of troops and said that the availability of troops has been affected due to Lok Sabha elections and deployment of BSF troops in Manipur. However, S K Sinha assured that BSF will identify and take action against the brokers helping in infiltration and will make all efforts for positive results.

He also informed that BSF is in the process of installing electronic gadgets for border surveillance in vulnerable areas along the Indo- Bangladesh international border in Tripura.

Chief Secretary of Tripura J K Sinha, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Anurag and other officers were also present in the meeting.

In the last few weeks, several Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas have been arrested at Agartala railway station and various parts of Tripura while trying to board trains out of the state.

Over 30 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested at Agartala railway station  in the last four days. The frequent arrests of drug, arms and human traffickers at the railway is being used as a main hub for smuggling.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested several youths from Tripura in connection with a case registered in Guwahati last year in which Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas are accused of being involved in human trafficking to India through Tripura.

The BSF had said in a report earlier this year that it had arrested 744 people illegally crossing the international border in 2023.

This includes 112 illegal Rohingya migrants, 337 Bangladeshi nationals and 295 Indians. In 2022, the BSF had detained 369 people including 59 Rohingyas and 160 Indians and 150 Bangladeshi nationals along the 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh.

Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which are still not fenced due to land disputes and demarcation issues.
