Tripura CM to Discuss Churaibari Check Post With Assam

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said he would take up the issue of expansion and upgradation of the Churaibari check post in North Tripura with his Assam counterpart to ensure smoother vehicular movement and stricter border surveillance.

Speaking to the media after concluding a two-day visit to North Tripura district, Saha said he had personally inspected the check post following numerous complaints regarding its functioning. “I received multiple grievances related to the Churaibari check post, which prompted me to conduct a physical inspection. I found that the complaints were genuine,” he said.

The Chief Minister stated that the administration has been directed to address the issues on an urgent basis. “The government will not tolerate any irregularities. Strict instructions have been issued, and failure to comply will invite further action,” he warned.

Saha pointed out that limited space on the Assam side of the border often leads to traffic congestion, causing inconvenience to commuters and transporters. “I will discuss the matter of expansion and development with the Assam Chief Minister and also raise it during the upcoming plenary session,” he added.

Expressing concern over environmental violations, the Chief Minister said several stone-crushing units near the national highway were operating in violation of prescribed norms. As per regulations, such units must be located at least 100 metres away from the highway. “Most of these units were set up during the Left Front regime and have not been adequately monitored,” he said.

He announced that a meeting would soon be convened to deliberate on regulating and relocating the stone-crushing units. The Chief Minister also flagged the issue of overloaded trucks transporting stone materials and called for necessary reforms.

During his visit, Saha also inspected the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) depot at Dharmanagar, where he interacted with drivers and officials. He urged drivers not to pay any illegal charges and to report such incidents directly to his office. “Such practices will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he asserted.
