Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday (December 19, 2025) expressed deep concern over the rapidly evolving situation in neighbouring Bangladesh, citing a marked deterioration in law and order following the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Addressing the media, Dr. Saha stated that incidents of violence had escalated significantly, noting that several individuals convicted of serious crimes were reportedly released from prisons after the political transition.

Given Tripura’s extensive international border—shared with Bangladesh on three sides—the Chief Minister said the State government remains fully prepared to respond to any fallout arising from the developments across the border.

“We have been closely monitoring the security situation in Bangladesh since the former Prime Minister left the country. The release of convicted criminals has raised serious concerns,” Dr. Saha said.
However, he emphasised that the situation in Bangladesh constitutes an international matter and falls primarily under the purview of the Union government. He added that the State administration has been regularly conveying its assessments and concerns to the Centre.
Holding the Home portfolio, Dr. Saha further stated that security measures along the international border have been significantly strengthened and that the Central government is fully apprised of the ground situation.
