Tripura Isolated By Rail Also After Road Due To National Highway Renovation In Assam

Due to the renovation of the national highway in Assam, it has already been isolated by road. Now Tripura has also been isolated from the mainland of the country by rail. This is because due to the failure to follow the safety rules properly during the road repair work, the water pressure and slope balance on the road was lost. As a result, the slope between the road and the railway line sank and the land moved towards the railway line, creating a huge landslide. The Northeast Frontier has completely suspended train services on the important Lumding-Badarpur hill route in Assam. This decision was taken after a huge rock and land collapsed on the railway line in the New Haflong-Jatinga Lumpur section on Sunday evening.

Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, North East Frontier Railway, said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) did not follow the safety rules properly during the ongoing road repair work in the area, which led to the loss of water pressure and slope balance on the road. As a result, the slope between the road and the railway line sank and the land shifted towards the railway line, creating a huge landslide. Besides, water from the road is flowing directly onto the railway line, which has further complicated the situation. The railway authorities have declared the area “extremely unsafe” and have decided to immediately suspend all train services on the route.

He added that the North Eastern Railway Authority of Lamding division has already informed the NHAI about the matter and requested it to take appropriate security measures on an urgent basis so that the important rail connectivity of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Barak Valley can be protected. Workers have already been deployed to clear the railway tracks. According to him, the condition of the national highway will be monitored tomorrow. Only then will the issue of rail movement on that route be considered. However, he fears that he cannot be sure that it will be possible to start rail services on that route very soon given the situation.
