Tripura: Kumarghat Chariot Tragedy Completes 1 Year on Friday. Victims Yet To Get Justice

Kumarghat Chariot Tragedy which shaken the entire country completed one year on Friday but the justice yet to get the victim families. On June 28 2023, 10 men and women were electrocuted in chariot tragedy in Kumarghat under North Tripura District of Tripura. 

Among the dead there are three children also. Chariot (Ulto Rath) was taken on an unauthorized route causing burns. The men, women, and children holding the chariot (Ulto Rath) were burnt to death as it came in touch with live wire. 

The air was heavy with smoke and the smell of burning human flesh. Their bodies were burning on the streets for a long time. On that day, 10 people including women and children died due to electrocution. 29 people were injured. 

The chariot journey turned into a death journey. The great festival of joy turned into sadness. Rupak Das (40), Sushmita Baishya (30), Jhuma Das Biswas (28), Ratnadeep Das (9), Shubdeep Malakar (6) and Shipra Pal Das (33) died on the spot. 

Priyanka Ghosh (4) died on the way from Unakoti District Hospital to GBP Hospital, Ratnarani Dhar (36) died while being treated at GBP Hospital. Draupadi Malakar (32) died  fighting for life after 26 days, Ruma Sarkar Ghosh (33) who was undergoing treatment in Delhi Hospital lost the battle of life. Dia Ghosh (7) is now completely paralyzed. Two deaths registered in the same family in 4 families.  

After the incident Chief Minister of the state rushed to the spot and ordered to submit report within 7 days. 

Now the question has already been raised that though one year has been completed but investigation report yet to public. 

Notable that the chief minister was not satisfied with the investigation report of the magistrate and ordered second phase inquiry report. 

However the chief minister rejected the demand for a high-level inquiry and ordered a magistrate-level inquiry. 

Despite the case, the police have not arrested any of the main accused so far. Moreover, the chariot in police custody was wiped out a few days ago. Cut into pieces by electric cutter machine and sold
