Tripura Left Front Appeals To HC For Online Nomination Submission in Polls

The Tripura Left Front has approached the  High Court ahead of the panchayat elections demanding online nomination submission.

They submitted a petition to the court based on specific requests. The petition has been accepted by the bench of Chief Justice Apresh Kumar Singh and Justice SD Purkayastha. The petition will be heard on July 18.

CPM state committee member and former minister Manik Dey said "the state election commission had advised the candidates to contact the police regarding security. Accordingly, it has been requested to meet the DGP and take necessary action. However, no such instructions have come from the State Election Commission, as a result of which it is not possible for the police to escort the candidates to file their nominations, DGP clearly said".

As a result, today they once again approached the State Election Commissioner and presented the DGP's statement.

On the other hand the convenor of the Left Front Narayan Kar said  that the state election commissioner has assured that the DGP will give instructions to the candidates for security in filing their nominations. But, the role of the administration seems very suspicious, so we knocked on the door of Tripura High Court.

According to him, I have filed a petition in the Tripura High Court with the application of online submission of nominations for panchayat elections, submission of nominations through additional ARO instead of block office, extension of nomination submission deadline and creating a fair environment for elections. The petition has been accepted by the bench of Chief Justice Apresh Kumar Singh and Justice SD Purkayastha. The petition will be heard on July 18.

The death of Left Front-backed CPIM candidate Badal Shill erupted tension. Targeting the ruling BJP, the Left has constantly raised the concern of turning the election into a farce.

The Left Front met the Director General of State Police to demand security for the candidates. They demand that the system of escorting candidates and submitting nominations should be ensured. But, it is not possible for the police to take such measures without the instructions of the State Election Commission, the DGP clarified them
