Tripura: Mid Day Meal Workers Stages Agitation Protest For Salary Increase

CITU-affiliated Tripura Mid Day Meal Workers Union Tripura State Committee staged a protest in front of the Education Department demanding 10-point demands including official recognition of mid-day meal workers. 

Later, a delegation of the committee placed a deputation to the director of the education department.

A leader of the committee alleged that Mid Day Meal workers are from very poor sections. Moreover, they are economically backward. They are working for only Rs 2500. So our demand is to the state government to increase their salary.

Moreover, 10 point demands are being made by the committee. These includes, monthly salary to be paid in the first week of every month, payment of 12 months salary instead of 10 months, increase in salary in line with the market rate, mid day meal workers should be given clothing every year.

Besides, giving festival exgracia to mid-day meal workers, reinstatement of retrenched workers, increasing the per capita allocation of mid-day meal to female students in line with the market rate, compensation in case of accidents while cooking, providing social security to mid-day meal workers and Appointment letter should be issued at the time of appointment
