Tripura: On duty OC Attacked. Case Filled Against 8 in Kalamchoura

Case has been registered against eight accused who allegedly attempted to kill the Officer- in-Charge (OC) of the Kalamchoura police station, Prashanta Dey, in Sonamura under Sepahijala District, 

According to the report a businessman namely Ramprasad Deb sustained serious injuries in a car accident involving a sugar-laden vehicle on May 24 at 9:00 PM.

Despite receiving medical treatment at ILS and GBP Hospital, Ramprasad Deb  succumbed to his injuries at 8:30 AM on Sunday. 

On the same day, a group of miscreants brought Ramprasad Deb's dead body to the main gate of Kalamchoura Police Station, blocking the road by burning tires. 

They demanded the immediate arrest of the vehicle driver responsible for the fatal accident.

OC Prashanta Dey promptly apprehended the accused driver and handed him over to the Sonamura court within an hour of the incident.

However, the situation escalated when the miscreants forcibly entered the police station premises.

In an attempt to harm OC Prashanta Dey, one of the assailants wielded a beer bottle, striking the OC's office entrence. 

The OC narrowly escaped injury by quickly retreating and securing himself in a bathroom. The assailants also ransacked the OC's room, stealing cash and a gold chain. 

OC Prashanta Kumar Dey expressed bewilderment over the attack, questioning the motive behind the assassination attempt.

He emphasized that the police had diligently followed standard procedures upon receiving the complaint from Ramprasad Deb's family.

The case against the eight accused has been registered under sections 147, 149, 427, 353, 384, and 120(b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with case number 35/2024/KLC. 

The accused, including Manik Lal Das, Ranjan Deb, Ashish Biswas, Subhash Deb, Sukhen Das, Bikas Bhattacharya, Govinda Sutradhar and Pranab Nama, are reportedly absconding.
