The Raj Bhavan in Tripura will officially be renamed as Lok Bhavan starting tomorrow, i. e December 1, 2025, following directions issued by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and consultations with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to an official statement, the change is part of a central directive aimed at updating the nomenclature of gubernatorial residences across states. All government communications, official references, and documentation will adopt the new name from the effective date. Authorities further noted that detailed implementation guidelines—including changes to signage, letterheads, ceremonial protocols, and digital platforms—will be notified shortly.
Speaking to reporters, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu said the term Raj Bhavan evokes the imagery of a monarch’s residence, which does not align with the ethos of a democratic republic. Emphasising that the institution ultimately belongs to the people, he stated that the new name Lok Bhavan reflects this spirit. He also announced that designated visiting hours will soon be introduced to allow the general public to meet officials at the Governor’s House.
The renaming marks a significant symbolic shift in Tripura’s administrative identity, aligning the state with evolving federal nomenclature reforms.
