A historic milestone was achieved in the state’s sporting landscape on Sunday with the formal inauguration of the first-ever Tripura State Games by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
Organised under the aegis of the Tripura Olympic Association, the landmark multi-disciplinary sporting event was ceremonially launched at the Dasharath Dev Sports Complex in the state capital.
Scheduled to be held across various districts on February 23 and 24, the State Games mark the beginning of a new chapter in Tripura’s sports movement. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure, fostering grassroots talent identification, and enabling athletes to excel at national and international levels.

Sports Minister Tinku Roy highlighted that the Tripura State Games would serve as a vital platform for nurturing and showcasing sporting talent capable of representing the state at national forums.
The inaugural edition features 18 disciplines, including football, volleyball, hockey, table tennis, judo, and gymnastics. Notably, golf has been introduced for the first time, reflecting a progressive diversification of the state’s sporting ecosystem and an embrace of emerging disciplines.
In a strategic move toward decentralisation and inclusive development, venues have been allocated across multiple districts, including Dhalai and Gomati, ensuring wider participation and regional engagement.
With nearly 3,000 athletes competing, the event stands as one of the largest sporting congregations in the state’s history. Observers believe that the Tripura State Games has the potential to evolve into a flagship fixture in the state’s annual sporting calendar, shaping the future trajectory of competitive sports in Tripura.
