Tripura to Honour Biswa Bandhu Sen Posthumously

The Government of Tripura has announced that former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Biswa Bandhu Sen, will be honoured posthumously with the Tripura Bhushan Samman during the Statehood Day celebrations on January 21, 2026. The state-level programme will be held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, where several eminent personalities and institutions will be felicitated for their contributions across diverse fields.
Along with Sen, noted scriptwriter Biplab Goswami will also receive the Tripura Bhushan Samman. The state’s highest civilian honour, the Tripura Bibhushan Samman, will be conferred posthumously on eminent educationist Dhirendra Chandra Dutta in recognition of his lifelong service to education.

In other categories, the Sachin Dev Burman Memorial State Award will be presented to folk artist Surya Kumar Debbarma (Sadagar), while the Maharani Kanchanprabha Devi Memorial State Award will go to Champa Das of Kamalghat. For contributions to science and the environment, Dr. Arijit Das, Associate Professor and Head of Department at Bir Bikram Memorial College, will be honoured.
Recognitions in entrepreneurship and community service include the Good Citizen Award for Gautam Das of Purba Pratapgarh. Entrepreneurship awards will be presented to Atkalapa Biotechnology LLP of Nagichhara (Best Startup), Dhanbabu Halam of Simbukchak, Salema (Best Agriculture & Horticulture Entrepreneur), Krishna Debbarma of Mohanbhog, Sepahijala (Best Fisheries Entrepreneur), and Ratan Debnath of Bishramganj (Best Animal Husbandry Entrepreneur).

Additional honours will recognise Uttam Kumar Das of Teliamura (handloom, handicraft and apiculture), Dipak Dutta of Kanchanbari, Fatikroy (industrial enterprise), and Satyabrata Biswas of Purba Yogendranagar (best mobile app). The Best Cooperative Society Award will be presented to Tulamura PACS Ltd. of Gomati district, while Laxman Malakar of Belonia will be honoured as Best Educationist. In sports, Sriparna Debnath of Natinagar will receive the Best Sportsperson Award.
Officials said the awards underscore Tripura’s commitment to celebrating excellence in education, arts, science, entrepreneurship and social service, while paying tribute to leaders like Biswa Bandhu Sen whose contributions to the state’s legislative and public life remain enduring.
