Tripura Tops Nation in Panchayat Advancement Index 2.0

Tripura has etched its name into the national governance narrative by delivering a path-breaking performance in the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0, the results of which were announced on February 2, 2026, by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India.
Assessed for the financial year 2023–24, Tripura’s Gram Panchayats demonstrated an exceptional standard of administrative maturity and institutional efficiency, setting an unparalleled benchmark in decentralised governance across the country. In a feat unmatched nationwide, all 1,176 Gram Panchayats of the state achieved complete participation, recording 100 per cent data submission and multi-tier verification at the block, district, state and central levels—underscoring the robustness and cohesion of Tripura’s Panchayati Raj framework.
Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman stated that Jugal Kishore Nagar Village Committee under the Jampuijala RD Block in Sepahijala district emerged as the highest-scoring Gram Panchayat in India, securing a remarkable score of 88.44 among nearly 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats evaluated across the country.
“This extraordinary accomplishment firmly establishes Tripura as a national leader in Panchayat performance and grassroots governance,” the minister said.
Further reinforcing the state’s dominance, South Nalchar Gram Panchayat of Nalchar RD Block in Sepahijala district secured the third position nationally with a score of 88.14, while Chesrimai Gram Panchayat under Charilam RD Block in the same district ranked fourth with a score of 87.85.
The sweeping success of Tripura’s Gram Panchayats in the PAI 2.0 reflects the state government’s sustained focus on institutional strengthening, transparency, digital governance, and citizen-centric service delivery—positioning Tripura as a model for inclusive and accountable rural governance in India.
