Tripura Woman Inspector Wins Top Investigation Award

In a proud moment for Tripura Police, Woman Inspector (UB) Swapna Bhowmik of Belonia Women Police Station, South District, has been conferred with the prestigious Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak 2025 in the field of investigation.

According to a press release issued by Tripura Police, Inspector Bhowmik was selected for this national honour in recognition of her outstanding professionalism, prompt action, and unwavering commitment to justice. Her commendable work came in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which concluded with a conviction in just 257 days—a rare achievement under the new criminal laws.

The case originated from a missing report of a minor girl lodged on September 14, 2024. Acting with remarkable speed, Inspector Bhowmik traced and rescued the victim the same night, ensured her medical examination, and arranged for her judicial statement to be recorded the next morning under Section 183(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Her meticulous investigation led to the immediate arrest of the accused and the collection of decisive evidence. The charge sheet was filed within 47 days, on October 31, 2024. The case was then fast-tracked for trial, culminating in a swift conviction.

The Court sentenced the offender to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, and 2 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹2,000 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, the victim was awarded ₹2,00,000 as compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme.

The Government of Tripura and the Tripura Police Headquarters have commended Inspector Bhowmik’s achievement, calling it “a model of dedication, efficiency, and justice-oriented policing.”
