US President Donald Trump on Monday signed the Gaza Peace Deal at a high-profile international summit in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, calling it “very special.”
Trump co-chaired the summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, attended by leaders from over 20 countries. Notably, Israel and Hamas were not invited to the conference.
“I thought this would be the hardest task, but with our amazing team and the help of these countries, it’s done,” Trump said, lauding his diplomatic corps. He is expected to deliver a detailed address and hold private discussions with participating leaders later in the day.
Meanwhile, in a significant development, Hamas has returned the bodies of four hostages to Israel, including Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who was abducted from Kibbutz Alumim on October 7, 2023, under the “Learn and Earn” program.
The bodies of Guy Illouz, Yossi Sharabi, and Daniel Peres have also been repatriated. Earlier today, Hamas released 20 Israeli hostages in two batches of seven and thirteen.
With the latest exchange, Hamas no longer holds any living Israeli hostages, while Israel has freed 250 Palestinian prisoners under the deal.
