Two-Day Tripura Assembly Session From Sept 19; Four Bills to be Introduced

The Tripura Legislative Assembly will hold a two-day session on September 19 and 23, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Monday. He said the session has been curtailed in view of the upcoming Durga Puja festival and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on September 22.

Nath informed that the session will see the introduction of four Bills — the Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, the New Tripura Janabiswas Provision Bill, the Factories (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Tripura Shops and Establishments (Seventh Amendment) Bill. In addition, three private member resolutions and a question-and-answer session are on the agenda.

“On the first day, there will be a question-answer session and the four Bills will be placed. If any discussions are needed, they will take place on September 23,” Nath said after a Business Advisory Committee meeting, attended by representatives of the BJP, TIPRA Motha, CPM, and Congress.

With Speaker Biswabandhu Sen recovering from surgery following a brain haemorrhage, Deputy Speaker will preside over the House. Nath clarified that the Constitution allows Assembly proceedings to continue even if both Speaker and Deputy Speaker are absent.

Sen was admitted to a private hospital in Agartala on August 8 after collapsing at Badharghat railway station.
