On Thursday, during the removal of encroachment in Kamrup (metropolitan) district of Assam, a clash broke out between the mob and the police.
The situation worsened so much that the police had to open fire to disperse the mob. Two people died in this. The police claim that many officers and security personnel were injured in the mob attack. After this, they were forced to open fire.
On Thursday, a police team from Assam's Sonapur Zonal Office went to Kochutoli village to vacate the land.
The administration claims that Bengali-speaking Muslim villagers had illegally occupied this land. They had been removed from here once before, but they had occupied it again. That is why a team of the administration and police had gone to remove them. During this time, the mob attacked the police and two people lost their lives in the firing.
According to an Assam official, when the team was taking action to remove the encroachment, a large number of women and villagers gathered there and attacked the officers and policemen with sharp weapons, sticks and stones.
Due to this, a magistrate and more than 20 policemen were injured. The protesters also damaged a police vehicle.

Circle Officer of Sonapur Nitul Khataniar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Mrinal Deka and Officer-in-Charge of Sonapur police station Hirak Jyoti Sakia were injured in the mob attack. An eyewitness claimed that more than 50 people were injured and were taken to the district hospital. Another officer claimed that many people with minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after first aid. Additional security forces have been deployed in the village and police officers have reached the spot
