Ukraine Hits Key Fuel Pipeline Near Moscow

Ukraine hits major Russian fuel pipeline near Moscow, says strike dealt “serious blow”

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) on Saturday said its forces carried out a successful strike on a major fuel pipeline in Russia’s Moscow region, calling it a “serious blow” to the Kremlin’s military logistics.

The operation, conducted late Friday, targeted the Koltsevoy pipeline, which stretches roughly 400 kilometres and supplies gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from refineries in Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, and Moscow.

According to HUR, the attack destroyed all three fuel lines near the Ramensky district, disrupting one of Russia’s key supply routes that could transport up to 3 million tons of jet fuel, 2.8 million tons of diesel, and 1.6 million tons of gasoline annually.

HUR chief Kyrylo Budanov said the strikes have had “more impact than sanctions,” referring to Western measures against Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Russia launched fresh missile and drone attacks on Ukraine early Saturday. A ballistic missile strike on the southern Mykolaiv region killed one civilian and injured fifteen others, including a child, according to local official Vitaliy Kim. Another strike caused a fire at a gas plant in Poltava region, Ukraine’s emergency service said.

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 223 drones overnight, of which 206 were shot down. Seventeen drones hit targets across seven regions, while additional strikes damaged an agricultural enterprise in Chernihiv, injuring a 66-year-old woman.

Kyiv described the continued Russian bombardment of its energy facilities as part of a campaign of “systematic energy terror.”
