Unrest Bangladesh: Assam Police On High Alert Along Indo-Bangla Border

In view of the unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh, Assam Police is on high alert along the India-Bangladesh border to ensure that no person can enter the state illegally.
Director General of Police G.P. Singh said that the Centre has issued instructions that no person will be allowed to enter India illegally from Bangladesh
Speaking to media on the occasion of a book release, Singh said, "Border Security Force (BSF) is the first line of defence on the border and Assam Police as the second line is also on high alert."
"However, there is a condition that Indian passport holders, mostly students and businessmen, will be allowed entry only if their documents are found valid after proper verification," the DGP said.
He said another directive has been issued by the Centre that citizens of the neighbouring country will be sent back to Bangladesh through safe corridors after verification of their passports and visas.
The DGP said, 'Apart from these activities, there has been no entry of any person into the state. Assam Police is carrying out joint patrolling with the BSF.'
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday said infiltration from the neighbouring country is a matter of concern in view of the unrest in Bangladesh and his government has imposed night curfew in some districts to prevent it.
Singh said, "I am in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs. As far as our security is concerned, we have imposed night curfew in Pherzawl and Jiribam districts to prevent infiltration.
More than 230 people died in the nationwide violence that broke out in Bangladesh after the fall of the Hasina government on Monday.
