Unrest Bangladesh: Students Returning India Through Agartala ICP

Many students are returning to India through various ICPs from Bangladesh due to ongoing unrest in that neighbouring country. 

About 150 students have returned to India in the last two days. 

43 medical students returned to India from Bangladesh on Saturday through Agartala-Akhaura check post. 

Speaking with the press BSF DIG Rajiv Agniharti said that due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, Indian students are returning to India through various ICPs. Around 150 students from different states of India including Nepal returned to India using valid documents through Agartala-Akhaura check post during last two days. More students will return to India in the coming days.

On this day, he also said that all the necessary arrangements have been made by the BSF for the  students. Besides, BSF is closely monitoring the situation across the border. 

According to him, all possible assistance will be provided to the students and the Border Guard Bangladesh officers are being kept in touch. Besides, the state government has made all necessary arrangements including refreshments and transportation for the students.

On the other hand Indian High Commission in Dhaka and Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna are assisting Indian nationals to return home after the recent events in Bangladesh. A statement has been issued from the Indian High Commission office in Bangladesh. 

The statement also informed that so far 778 Indian students have returned to India through various land ports. Besides, about 200 students have returned to the country by regular air services through Dhaka and Chittagong airports. The Indian High Commission and Assistant High Commission in Dhaka are in regular contact with over 4000 students staying in various universities in Bangladesh and are providing necessary assistance. Students from Nepal and Bhutan have been assisted to enter India on their request.

The High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are in regular contact with the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Indian citizens and students. Security arrangements have also been made as necessary for their travel by road during repatriation through selected land ports. 

The High Commission in Dhaka is also coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh and commercial airlines to ensure uninterrupted flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong to India, which our citizens can use to return home.
