US Presidential Election: Kamala Harris Picks Tim Walz As Running Mate

A source familiar with the process told news channel CNN that Harris had not formally told Tim Walz to offer him the position.

Walz, who began his career as a teacher, is currently in his second term as governor of Minnesota. He is also the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.

He previously served 12 years in Congress, during which he represented a conservative-leaning rural district.

Walz is considered a supporter of Harris. He was known as a supporter of President Joe Biden before Harris was selected as his running mate. But when he withdrew from the presidential election, he started supporting Kamala Harris.

Earlier,  Harris received the official presidential nomination from the Democratic Party. With this, she has become the first Indian-African woman to get a presidential election ticket from a major political party in the country.

59-year-old Harris will face former President and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump in the general elections to be held in November. Last Friday, Kamala Harris was declared the new candidate of the ruling Democratic Party for the next presidential election. Then Harris had said, "I am proud to be made the Democratic candidate for the US presidency. I will officially accept the nomination next week."

Last month, after falling ill repeatedly and at the request of many leaders, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race. After this, Indian-origin Vice President Harris was declared the Democratic Party's candidate for the presidential election.

The official announcement regarding Harris' candidacy was made after 5 days of online voting by the delegates of the Democratic National Convention. The party said in a statement that 99 percent of the delegates voted in favor of Kamala Harris. 4,567 delegates from across the country voted in favor of Harris
