Indian cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi celebrated his 15th birthday today, on the eve of the IPL 2026, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career.
Ever since his remarkable IPL debut, discussions have intensified regarding his potential induction into India’s senior national side. With his 15th birthday, he now meets the eligibility criteria set by the International Cricket Council, making him fully qualified to compete in senior international cricket.
Suryavanshi has already carved out a place in IPL history, becoming the youngest player to score a half-century at just 14 years and 32 days. The previous record was held by Riyan Parag, who achieved the feat in 2019 at the age of 17 years and 175 days.
Under Article 4.1 of the ICC’s eligibility regulations—implemented in November 2020—a player must be at least 15 years old at the start of an international series or tournament. The rule is intended to safeguard the physical and mental well-being of young cricketers.
Demonstrating exceptional talent, Suryavanshi recently became the youngest centurion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens on December 2, an innings featuring seven fours and seven sixes. Notably, he is also the only cricketer to have scored three T20 centuries at the age of 14.
In the IPL, representing the Rajasthan Royals, he smashed a 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans at just 14 years and 32 days. In comparison, Vijay Zol had achieved a century at 18 years and 118 days in domestic cricket back in 2013.
So far, Suryavanshi has represented Bihar in eight first-class and eight List A matches, scoring 207 and 353 runs respectively. In T20 cricket, he has amassed an impressive 701 runs in 18 matches, underlining his immense promise and precocious brilliance.
