India’s supremacy in the shortest format of cricket has received yet another boost, with mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy climbing three spots to become the world’s No. 1 men’s T20I bowler, according to the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old leg-spinner’s consistent show throughout 2025 has propelled him past New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy and West Indies’ Akeal Hosein, cementing his place at the top of the T20 bowling charts. Chakravarthy’s latest impact came during India’s crucial Asia Cup clash against Pakistan on September 14, where he picked up a wicket to help the Men in Blue secure a thrilling three-wicket win over Salman Agha’s side.
India’s Clean Sweep in T20I Rankings
It’s not just bowling where India dominates. The Men in Blue currently occupy the No. 1 position across all ICC T20I rankings—team, batting, bowling, and all-rounder—while also holding the crown of reigning T20 World Cup champions.
Top batter: Abhishek Sharma
Top all-rounder: Hardik Pandya
Top bowler: Varun Chakravarthy
India’s comprehensive dominance has been maintained under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who guided the team to the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. With stars like Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya contributing, India continues to set the gold standard in T20 cricket.
Chakravarthy Joins Elite Company
Varun Chakravarthy is only the third Indian bowler to reach the summit of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings, following in the footsteps of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi.
His road to the top was paved with standout performances, including his second career five-wicket haul against England earlier this year, followed by economical spells in the Asia Cup. He returned with 1/4 against hosts UAE in the tournament opener and backed it up with 1/24 from four overs in India’s commanding victory over Pakistan.
India’s Message to the Cricketing World
With the team topping every ICC T20I chart and players dominating individual rankings, India’s stranglehold on the format appears unshakable. As the defending champions and world No. 1 across the board, the Men in Blue are once again sending a strong message: India rules T20 cricket.
