VHP Seeks Ban on Bangladeshi Goods After Border Protest

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), along with members of the Sanatani community, staged a protest and rally at the Raghna Border in North Tripura on January 6, demanding an immediate halt to bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh.

The protesters also called for a complete boycott of Bangladeshi products, citing alleged atrocities against Hindu minorities in the neighbouring country.

According to the VHP, the protest was organised to highlight what it described as continuous persecution, targeted violence, and killings of Hindus in Bangladesh.

Earlier in the day, protesters assembled at Dharmanagar’s BBI Maidan around noon. From there, they took out a bike and vehicle rally, which later proceeded to the Raghna Land Customs Station (LCS) in North Tripura district.

Upon reaching the border area, the demonstrators staged a peaceful protest and demanded the suspension of all import and export activities through the Raghna LCS.

Following the demonstration, VHP leaders submitted a memorandum to senior administrative officials, expressing what they termed “grave concern and deep resentment” over the alleged ongoing atrocities and targeted killings of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

The organisation stated that incidents of violence had reached an “unbearable limit,” prompting people in North Tripura to oppose continued trade or communication through the border.

The VHP demanded the immediate closure of the Raghna Border and suspension of all bilateral trade activities, asserting that national dignity and the safety of the Hindu community must take precedence over economic ties.

Addressing the media, rally coordinator Birendra Das said the protest was triggered by the killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, along with continued reports of violence against Hindus and other minority communities.

He demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible and urged authorities to take concrete steps to ensure the safety and security of minorities in Bangladesh.

The protesters also appealed to Indian citizens to boycott Bangladeshi products, stating that bilateral trade should remain suspended until violence against Hindus in Bangladesh comes to an end.
