We Can Make A Good Deal With India: US Finance Minister Amid 50% Tarrif Imposed On India

Amid the tariff dispute with India, the US is hopeful that it can reach a good deal with India. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said in an interview on Wednesday that India-US relations are quite complicated, but he is confident that the two countries will eventually come together.

America has imposed a 50% tariff on India, which has come into effect from today. This is the highest in the world. Regarding this, India's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh said that America has deliberately targeted India separately. Whereas other countries are also buying oil from Russia.

Scott Bessant was questioned on Fox Business TV channel about tariffs between India and the US and Russian oil purchases.

The anchor asked him that India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has recently said that if America has a problem with India buying oil from Russia, then America should stop buying refined oil from India. What is your opinion on this?

In response to this question, Finance Minister Besant said- India is the world's largest democracy and America is the largest economy. Ultimately, we both will come together.

Besant reiterated Trump's stance that when there is a trade imbalance, the deficit country benefits, while the country that sells more should worry. He said, "India is selling goods to us, their tariffs are very high and we have a big deficit."

When asked if he is worried about doing business in Indian Rupee, he said that the Indian Rupee is currently at its lowest level against the dollar. So he is not worried about it. He said- I am worried about many things, but the issue of Rupee becoming a global currency is not included in it.

Besant also said that President Trump and Prime Minister Modi have a very good relationship. However, he also admitted that the relationship is complex and it is not just a matter of Russian oil. America has a huge trade deficit with India.

Besant said- We thought India could join the initial agreements. Then India also cooperated in the talks, but the issue of buying crude oil from Russia is creating problems because India is earning profit from it.

At the same time, India's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh called this tariff of America wrong, unfair and unjust. He said that America has targeted India separately, while other countries also buy oil from Russia.

Kirti Vardhan Singh expressed confidence that India's economy is strong and it will face this challenge. He said - Our government will protect the country's interests and the energy needs of 140 crore people. We will buy oil from where we get the best deal.

Media reports have quoted government sources as saying that the channels of dialogue are open to resolve the tariff dispute between India and the US. Efforts to resolve this issue will continue.

Sources also said that exporters need not panic as this is a temporary phase in the long relationship between India and the US. Both countries are working together to resolve the issue.
