We Condemn The Move of Opposition to Oppose CAA in Tripura: BJP

BJP Tripura Pradesh accused the opposition of misleading people on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and said the law will not be implemented in areas where the Sixth Schedule and Inner Line Permit (ILP) are applicable.

State BJP chief Rajib Bhattacharya said reporters, "Opposition parties are trying to mislead people on the CAA. This law is very clear about granting citizenship to minorities who fled religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan."

He said, “This Act will not be implemented in areas where the Sixth Schedule and Inner Line Permit (ILP) are applicable.”

Bhattacharya also said that if this law is implemented in the state then it will not have any adverse effect on the socio-political scenario of the northeastern state.

He said, “We strongly condemn the move of opposition parties to oppose the CAA... We appeal to the people not to be mislead by their negative propaganda.”

Tipra Motha, a constituent of the BJP-led coalition government, has made it clear that it will strongly oppose any move to grant citizenship to refugees from other countries and settle them in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District (TTAADC) area.

The tribal unit of the Congress submitted a memorandum to Tripura Chief Secretary JK Singh expressing concern over the implementation of the controversial law.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) also expressed concern over the issue.
