West Indies announce 15-member squad for India Test series

Cricket West Indies has announced a 15-member squad, led by Roston Chase, for the upcoming two-Test series against India beginning October 2 in Ahmedabad. Tejnarine Chanderpaul, son of legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and Alick Athanaze return, while left-arm spinner Khary Piari earns his maiden call-up after claiming 41 wickets at 13.56 in the West Indies Championship.

Craig Brathwaite, Casey Carty, Michael Lewis, and Johan Lan miss out following the team’s 3-0 home defeat against Australia. The second Test will be played in New Delhi from October 10.

This marks West Indies’ first Test tour of India in seven years, the last ending 2-0 in 2018. The series is also India’s opening home assignment in the current World Test Championship cycle, with Shubman Gill set to captain India.

West Indies head coach Darren Sammy said the squad was chosen to suit subcontinental conditions, stressing on stronger batting with Chanderpaul’s inclusion. The Caribbean side departs on September 22 and begins training in Ahmedabad after arrival on September 24.
