Why Afghanistan Like Situation Being Allowed To Be Created In Manipur?: Congress MP

The crisis in Manipur has been going on for a long time, on this issue Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam launched a scathing attack on the central government. 

Regarding the situation in Manipur, Akoijam said, if this had happened in states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, then such situations would not have been ignored.

Criticising the central government, the Congress MP said, why is the central government allowing the northeastern state to become like Afghanistan. More than 60 thousand soldiers are deployed in Manipur, the central government should stop this crisis from lasting so long in the state. He further said, if such a crisis, such conditions had occurred in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, would this crisis have been allowed to last so long?

Attacking the BJP over the violence in Manipur, the Congress MP said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have called his MLAs and ministers and said that this should not happen in India, I will not let this happen. He alleged, the Government of India is completely responsible for the Manipur crisis.

At the same time, Akoijam said that the ongoing conflict has affected the trust people had on security forces, including the police. He said, when trust in state institutions is reduced, it raises questions about the legitimacy of the state. Akoijam also rejected Home Minister Amit Shah's claim that the situation in Manipur is normal after three days of recent violence.

The conflict between two castes in Manipur started on 3 May 2022. Violence started between the Meitei and Kuki castes. Since then, more than 220 people have lost their lives in this violence. These include members of both the Kuki and Meitei communities as well as security personnel
