Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Yemen's Houthi rebels that they will have to pay a heavy price for firing missiles on Israeli soil.
According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the missile was launched from Yemen towards Israel at 6 am local time on Sunday morning. However, the missile probably broke into pieces in the air. The missile fell in an open area in central Israel, in which no casualties have been reported. Meanwhile, the Israeli army has started 'Operation Yemen'. It is believed that soon the Israeli army can carry out a major airstrike in Yemen.
Video and photos shared on Telegram by the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority showed huge plumes of smoke rising into the air over an open field and shattered glass fragments scattered inside a train station in Modiin, a city between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
A military spokesman for the Iran-backed Houthi rebels confirmed the attack. He claimed the group used a "new hypersonic ballistic missile" and warned that Israel faces many more such attacks before the first anniversary of the October 7 attack by Hamas.
Speaking before a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said, "We are in a multipolar campaign against Iran's evil axis, which seeks to destroy us." "They should have realized by now that we pay a heavy price for any attempt to harm us," he said. Netanyahu also referred to Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's Hodeidah port in July following deadly Houthi drone attacks on Tel Aviv.
At the same time, the Israeli army said that at least 40 missiles were fired from Lebanon on Sunday morning, most of which were shot down there or fell in open areas. Thousands of people on both sides have been displaced due to attacks on the Israel-Lebanon border.
Israel has repeatedly threatened to launch a massive military operation against Lebanon's Hezbollah. Netanyahu said in a cabinet meeting, "The status quo will not continue. This requires a change in the balance of power on our northern border. We will make every effort to send our residents back to their homes safely." Hezbollah has said that if there is a ceasefire in Gaza, it will stop its attacks
